I am so glad to have found your classes; the community of support and joy is so overwhelming I find myself almost crying at times. Then, you do something so funny and I am laughing again and feeling so alive and happy.
Not only are we learning a healing dance, to my delight I realize we are also being educated in Egyptian culture, language and customs. I can actually catch some of the words and phrases in our music and with time, maybe will understand a full sentence!
To say that this dance has changed my life is not an exaggeration, it is the truth. Shukran!

How is Egyptian dance different from Belly Dance?
There are regional differences in what is generally and erroneously referred to as 'Belly Dance', extending from North Africa throughout Turkey, Greece, the Levant, and the Mediterranean.
However, the dance began in Egypt and has long been considered the folkloric dance of that nation.
The correct term in Egypt is 'Raqs Sharqi' although "Where can I see authentic bellydance?" will always be understood.
It depends upon how proficient you wish to become, but a commitment to weekly classes and practice will enable you to do the basic moves in just a few months. With private lessons and performance coaching, you can progress more quickly.
From there, you will learn to combine the moves into a flowing, graceful dance.
Our dance originates in ancient Egypt and has been kept alive for thousands of years by wise women. Empowering, feminine and fun, even cats enjoy it!
After 6-12 months of classes, you may want to audition to be a full troupe member. It's a decision the troupe makes and votes on and is based on skill, musicality, reliability, willingness to be a team player, all that's needed in a congenial, professional troupe.
Belly Dance requires freedom of movement; yoga/workout pants, close-fitting top, barefoot or soft slippers. No street shoes. No jeans or tight waistband.
Coin hip belts available for sale, or bring large scarf for hips.
